SS309 is known for good strength and oxidation resistance in continuous service temperatures up to 2000 F (1093 C).It is superior to 304 stainless in both strength and corrosion resistance. The high chromium and relatively low nickel content of 309 provide good resistance to high temperature sulfur bearing atmospheres. 309 have only moderate resistance to carbon absorption and is not suggested for use in highly carburizing atmospheres.
Annealing. Heat between 1 050oC and 1 150oC and water quench.
Stress Relieving 250-400oC for 1 hour.
Hot Working
Initial forging and pressure 1150-1 200¡ãC
Finishing temperature 1000¡ãC
